CHICAGO AREA, by Patrick Nolan at One Yard Revolution
For all practical purposes, we don’t weed our garden. Sure, every now and then we find a weed and pull it, but it happens infrequently enough and requires so little time and effort that it bears little resemblance to what we usually think of as weeding. And we owe it all to mulch.
OYR is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used.
