  • Founder and editor of Good Gardening Videos.org, a 501(c)(3) pro-science, pro-environment educational campaign that launched in 2017.
  • Co-founder, co-editor and regular contributor to the award-winning team blog GardenRant.
  • Garden blogger for independent garden centers, including Behnkes and Homestead Gardens in Maryland.
  • Founder and photo editor of  DC Gardens, a nonprofit campaign to promote gardening and public gardens in the Washington, D.C. area.
  • Contributor to national magazines, including Fine Gardening, Organic Gardening and Landscape Architecture.
  • Founder, editor and contributor to Greenbelt Online, the community website about the New Deal garden city of Greenbelt, Maryland.

Garden Coaching

  • From 2005 to 2013 Susan taught gardening to clients in their gardens – a service known as coaching.

Garden Organizing

  • Former president and newsletter editor for the Takoma Horticultural Club in Maryland.
  • Organizer of garden tours, plant swaps and other local teaching and networking events for gardeners.

Education and Work History

  • Attended public schools in Richmond, Virginia and earned a B.A. from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
  • Before her mid-life career change to garden coaching and writing, Susan worked at Common Cause and as an assignment court reporter for Congress, federal agencies, and the courts.
  • Certified as a Master Gardener in the District of Columbia.
